Ordinary / Non-Provisional Application
Filed when there is no priority claim and the application isn't a follow-up to a prior convention application. Requires a comprehensive description of the invention.
Convention Application
Used when claiming a priority date tied to a related application filed in a convention country — must be filed in India within a year of that primary filing.
PCT International Application
An international application, regulated by the Patent Cooperation Treaty, valid across up to 142 countries in a single attempt.
PCT National Phase Application
Filed in India within 31 months of the international filing date (or priority date, whichever is earlier) for a PCT application designating India.
Patent of Addition
Filed to incorporate modifications into an already-filed application. No renewal fee applies, since it can only be granted after the parent patent.
Divisional Application
Used when a single application claims more than one invention — it can be divided into two or more applications, sharing the parent's priority date.
